Swanson’s gives you options to start small with over 70 varieties
of 2” basket stuffers and more than 200 varieties of bedding plants
(typically planted with four plants per pack.) Pot them up then just
sit back and enjoy watching your garden grow and flourish. Need a
little more instant gratification? Our annuals come in larger sizes
too, in pots ranging from 4” to 10” in size. Swanson’s also has a
design staff on hand with striking ready-made containers, hanging
baskets, and live wreaths. Pick one up to set upon your patio or
simply find inspiration in our unusual and distinctive combinations.
Got Sun or Shade?
No
matter what light conditions you may have in your yard or deck,
Swanson’s can help you find the ideal flower for any situation. For
sunny spots, we’ve got you covered from African daisies to zinnias
and everything in between. Pansies and petunias come in nearly every
color you can think of and are long-lasting plants. We have lots
of plants to gently cascade over the edge of a container and ones
that will climb up a trellis, too. Some people think that gardening
in the shade means a limited palette of plants to choose from. Not
so! Sure, you can try impatiens or begonias, but ask to see our sweet
smelling heliotrope, browallia, torenia as well as more than 20 varieties
of upright and trailing annual fuchsias.
Geraniums
are here!
One
tried and true floral favorite is the geranium. Geraniums are among
the most popular flowering plants. Outdoors, they are used as annual
bedding plants, in hanging baskets, in pots and in window boxes.
Indoors, they are cultured as houseplants in sunny locations. We
carry the best quality and selection of geraniums at Swanson’s-
zonal, regal, ivy-leafed, fancy-leafed and scented varieties.
• Zonal
Geraniums – Pelargonium x hortorum is the common
geranium. They are compact in habit and often have fancy leaves
marked by distinct bands of darker pigments, tri-colored leaves
or leaves with silver or white markings. Flowers may be single
or double, are clustered into heads, and may range from red,
pink, salmon, and white.
• Martha
Washington Geranium – Pelargonium x domesticum is also
known as a “Regal Geranium.” They have large azalea-like flowers
with dramatic colors and patterns- some are so dark as to appear
black. This is where you’ll find truly purple flowers among geraniums
types.
• Ivy-Leafed
Geraniums – Pelargonium peltatum is the ivy-leaved geranium.
It has a vine-like growth habit with smooth, leathery leaves and
flowers with narrower petals and less dense flower heads. It is
commonly used in window boxes and is quite attractive in hanging
baskets.
• Scented-Leafed
Geraniums – These Pelargonium
varieties delight with fragrances smelling like rose, lemon, nutmeg,
apple and peppermint, just to name a few. They also have a wide range
of foliage types that can be used for making potpourris, sachets,
and tea flavorings. Scented geraniums make excellent houseplants,
and many have soft, finely textured visually pleasing foliage and
small blossoms.
