Outdoor color accents

Beauty on a budget Check out the winter pansy and viola selection. Cabbage and kale with pansies tucked in between are the perfect cover for the bulbs planted underneath. Start with crocus "bulbs for January color, dwarf daffodils for February, early tulips for March and enjoy" your winter pansies throughout the entire winter and into next spring.

Cyclamen are excellent gift plants that are usually available from October through March. White, pink, lavender, purple, red and bicolor varieties are available. The plant produces many flowers, remaining in flower two to four months with proper care. Cool indoor temperatures (50-60 degrees F) such as may be found at an east or north window during the winter will make the flowers last longer. Careful watering is essential. Plants are easily damaged from over watering or under watering

Amaryllis

The prettiest presents don't need wrapping!
The greatest selection of amaryllis bulbs is now available. We carry only the largest bulbs which will produce large blossoms with two stems per bulb. Once the roots have become established and you see top growth in the bulb you will be able to measure the growth daily. They make excellent gifts as they prefer room temperature with "good light, otherwise they are a low maintenance plant that will give color well into the" new year. Amaryllis are also easy to flower indoors and multiple flower spikes are the norm with our large-sized bulbs. Click here for more information on growing Amaryllis.

Scenter of Attraction
It's time to plant paperwhite narcissus both to enjoy in your home or to give as gifts this season. Plant these bulbs at Thanksgiving to be ready to give at Christmas time. If however, you wish to have a succession of fragrant blooms from now throughout the holidays you could schedule planting a bowl of paperwhites every 10 days throughout the season. This will give you continuous color through New Year's. The bulbs like to be grown in a cool environment with bright light, and water maintained at the bottom of the bulbs. The 'Angels in the Water' bulbs are now available, providing a larger bulb with the fragrance of the paperwhite narcissus. Pick up our handout with tips on how to grow these unusual bulbs. Paperwhite narcissus are one of the most fragrant and easiest bulbs you'll ever grow.

Paperwhite Narcissus

Forcing Paperwhites: Paperwhites can be planted with or without soil. Use any shallow bowl or container, about 4-inches deep. If it has drainage holes you’ll want to plant into potting soil. Without holes you’ll use gravel to hold the bulbs in place. Simply fill a shallow bowl or container halfway with decorative stones or gravel. Place as many paperwhite bulbs onto the stones, pushing them down just far enough so the bulbs are supported in an upright position as is comfortable. Add water just to the bottom of the bulbs. If the water covers too much of the bulb, they can rot. Now put them in a cool, dark place for one to two weeks. When the bulbs begin to root and the plant has started to grow from the bulb, move your container out into a brightly lit room. Four to six weeks later, your paperwhites should be ready to bloom!
