Treat
yourself and your loved ones to a beautiful, delicious and
healthy life with blueberries.
BEAUTIFUL – Blueberries are lovely and easy to grow shrubs.
They bloom profusely in the spring with pendulous white bells
from pink buds. In the summer, the leaves are a fresh green,
and when the weather starts to get cooler, the leaves change
into colors of yellows, oranges, and reds. Even the bare stems
in the winter are a treat! They turn bright red-orange.
DELICIOUS – A summer day is not complete until you have picked
a bowl full of your own big, sweet and juicy berries. By growing
your own berries, you can be assured that they are not laden
with pesticides, fertilizer, and dust residues. You also save
money and don’t contribute to pollution from shipping.

HEALTHY - Blueberries are now being called a super-food because of their extraordinary content of antioxidants, phytochemical compounds, fibre and vitamins. So, not only are they delicious, but they also; aid the brain in improving memory, inhibit cancers, promote urinary tract health, and lessen (possibly even improve) the affects of aging.

The
Maritime Northwest Planting Guide
If
you are new to growing plants from seed or starts in Seattle, consider
picking up a copy of The Maritime Northwest Garden Guide by
local garden guru Carl Elliott, now in its third edition. It features
month-by-month planting calendar for year round gardening.
Additionally, in an effort to be good community stewards, Swanson’s Nursery donates
any end-of-season unsold seed to various non-profits around the Puget
Sound area. In past years, hundreds of packets of seeds have been donated
to the King
County P-Patch program, Seattle
Tilth, Lettuce
Link (who grow produce for the homeless), and the Seattle
Arboretum Foundation.
