photo of Annick What do you do at Swanson's? Customer service: finding the answer, or finding someone who's got it.

Tell us a little about your professional background and other interests: I have associate degrees in French literature and ornamental horticulture. I studied art history for a couple of years in college, which led me to work ten years for Cirque du Soleil as a lace-maker. I moved from Montreal in 2012 and have worked at Swanson's since then. When I don't garden, I read about gardening.

What was your first plant? Daisies. I plucked them and dreamt of Prince Charming: "He loves me, he loves me not." Now it's: "He'll do the dishes, he'll do the dishes not."

What is your favorite gardening resource (book, website, etc.)? My co-workers: living encyclopedias.

What is your favorite season? Seattle.

What is your favorite Seattle-area greenspace/park/garden? A very high-maintenance garden on a private property on Queen Anne.

Where in the world would you most like to visit? Highway 1: all of it. And China: part of it.

What is your greatest extravagance? Way too much gardening on my weekends.

What is your favorite dish? My husband's improvisations. I should write a cookbook.

If you were a beverage, what would you be? A margarita. With an umbrella.

What is your most marked characteristic? I can't keep myself from laughing. Not so funny.

Give us a quick gardening tip: Aphids have a soft shell body, so to get rid of them blast them with cold water. Sometimes it's all they/you need.
