What do you do at Swanson's? I am the clearance area buyer (oh, and the nursery department buyer). Tell us a little about your professional background and other interests: I have a baccalaureate degree in horticultural science from Oregon State University and I have been working in nurseries since 1998. I was adopted by Swansons in 2004, and I became the manager/buyer for the nursery department a few years later. My interests include hiking (so I can see unusual plants and animals in their natural habitat), motivational speaking, and guitar playing. I love all smelly, thorny, and poisonous plants because someone has to.
What was your first plant? A Yellow Pitcher Plant, A Venus Fly Trap, and A Round Sundew.
What is your favorite gardening resource (book, website, etc.)? Graham Thomas' books.
What is your favorite season? Hiking Season.
What is your favorite Seattle-area greenspace/park/garden? The Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden.
Where in the world would you most like to visit? Australia.
What is your greatest extravagance? Any and all contorted, spiny, malodorous, crested, or witch's broom plants.
What is your favorite dish? Ones I can plant into.
If you were a beverage, what would you be? Chocolate milk, because it is rich and silky smooth.
What is your most marked characteristic? Weirdness.
