Make a Pinecone Bird Feeder

Supplies

• Medium to large pinecones

• Thick string, twine, or ribbon that is at least 8 to 10 inches long

• Peanut, almond, or sunflower butter

• A mix of birdseed or sunflower seeds

• A butter knife

• A shallow dish

Instructions

Shake the pinecone to remove any dirt.

Tie one end of the string around the pinecone somewhere near the upper middle of the cone.

Spread the nut butter all over the cone and be sure to fill in the spaces between the scales.

Place the birdseed in a shallow dish and roll the pinecone in the seeds, pressing lightly to adhere them.

Hang the feeder in a partly shady location. You can hang it from a hook or a tree branch, or string together several feeders like a garland for a tree or shrub.

Hint: If you want to make more than one pinecone bird feeder, they can be frozen for several weeks. Just pull one out of the freezer and hang it when ready!
