Bare Root Plants

In early spring, we carry an extensive selection of “bare-root” plants. These plants are still dormant and kept with their roots in bags of moistened sawdust instead of in pots with soil. They are ready to be planted immediately outside into the garden or a container. Learn more about choosing and planting bare-root plants.

There are multiple advantages to choosing bare-root plants: optimal growth, great value, and a wider selection. Bare-root plants can more quickly acclimate and get a vigorous head start on growing. Because the roots are placed directly in contact with native soil upon planting, the plant can start building a strong root system right away, before they have to deal with producing leaves and flowers. Also, many of the varieties of fruit trees and berries that we have in stock now won't be available later in the year. Since bare-root plants can be efficiently harvested, stored, and shipped, we are able to offer them at great savings!
