Click to read about how to help kids build their own terrarium! The terrarium-building information we're sharing here was thoughtfully simplified with little ones in mind. It is easy to build, educational, and fun!
Fall Festival at Swansons was October 22-23. This was a fabulous weekend event full of family fun! We filled our North Greenhouse with Autumn-themed kids’ activities and games, and even a few baby goats! It was a whirlwind of fun from tractor hay rides to Pumpkin Putt Putt to racing veggie cars to autumn arts and crafts.
All of us at Swansons struggle with finding the perfect gift sometimes, too - but we're lucky to have a multitude of amazing items all around us every day. So we decided to offer up a curated gallery of our favorite gifts.
You'll find something for everyone on your list - from gardening fanatics to little brothers to your one true love. Click on each image to see the items in more detail.
For the past six weeks, a team here at Swansons Nursery has been working with Curator PR on a community landscaping project for the Ballard Boys & Girls Club. We've been busy re-imagining the existing entry as a welcoming and interactive garden and parklet for club members and their families and this past week we weeded, dug, planted and watered until we dropped.
So I confess I was a bit surprised when I stumbled across a great article about the virtues of the dandelion, written by Saara Nafici of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Brooklyn? you say. I know, right? When I think of Brooklyn, I think concrete jungle, not meadows of wildflowers (It's okay, Seattle, our designer chickens are still designery-er than theirs).
Greetings from the coop! Another week and another blog that's for the birds! Java, Juliet and Midnight are doing well and getting bigger all the time. They seem to have grown a little more every time I see them (and I see them several times a day!). In fact, they look quite different from even a week ago.
It's been a hard week here at Swansons. We are so sad to say that we lost one of our chicks at the beginning of the week. Flower had always been our most delicate chick, but we had strong hopes that she would grow stronger each day and pull through. Unfortunately, she was just too weak and, despite all our care, she didn't make it. We are glad to see that the other chicks are doing well and growing each day.
