2018 Calendar of events

Swansons' Kids' Club activities inspire creativity and curiosity about the natural world around us. Attend a drop in activity on the 3rd Saturday of each month* from 10:00am-2:00pm. Each engaging activity is a hands-on learning experience that allows kids to create something special to take home with them. 

*Exception: November's activity is the 2nd Saturday.

Paint Birdhouse or Bird Feeder

Sat. Jan. 20 & Sun. Jan. 21 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Merge your love for creativity with your love for nature when you drop in to decorate your own wooden bird feeder or birdhouse with colorful paints! Your little ones will love it, and so will the birds. While you get creative, learn all about backyard birding from our Bird Ambassadors, Swansons' experts who love sharing information about our local bird wildlife and how our backyards can help them thrive. 

This is a special activity to introduce our 2018 Kids' Club! The $10 activity fee covers both materials (valued at $17.99) and instruction!

Rain Boot Planting

Sat. feb. 17 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Get spring flowers started early with pansies and primroses planted in fun, whimsical planters! We're thrilled to partner with Western Chief to host an activity where kids get to plant a pansy or primrose inside the cutest planter - a rain boot! 

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 


Mason Jar Terrarium

Sat. MAr. 17 & Sun. Mar. 18 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Kids love to watch a growing garden and get their hands dirty! Indulge in all this during our kids' activity to build your own mason jar terrarium that offers fun year-round! 

Activity fee: $10 for materials and instruction.

Make a Caterpillar seed starter

Sat. Apr. 21 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Kids learn how to grow and care for a garden from the very first steps in this fun activity! Get creative decorating your caterpillar container and then plant herb or flower seeds inside it and watch it grow.  

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 


Spring Treasure hunt

May (all month) | self-guided tour

Pick up a Spring Treasure Hunt guide and see if you can find all the items around the Nursery. Kids will have fun playing "I spy", finding plants and fun locations. Find and photograph all the items on the treasure hunt and get a prize when you're finished.

Air dry clay nature prints

Sat. may. 19 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Make an impression with this fun activity! Kids get to use plants to imprint shapes into that clay that only needs air to dry. The result is a beautiful disc or ornament that makes a great gift or display. 

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 



herb garden

Sat. jun. 16 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Just in time for Father's Day: Make a herb garden for a special dad, or make memories as you plant one together! Pick your favorite herbs or choose a themed herb garden. Pizza or salsa garden anyone?

Activity fee: $10 for materials and instruction.

paint garden rocks

Sat. jul. 21 & Sun. jul. 22 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Get colorful and creative painting a few rocks to decorate your garden. Use the rocks as unique plant markers or garden ornaments. We'll seal the rocks after painting to encourage longevity of the art. 

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 


Build an Adventure Globe

Sat. Aug. 18 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Get creative building a garden, forest, or jungle scene in a jar! Learn about each of these environments and their plants as you recreate your own scene to take home. These mini terrariums don't use real plant material, so you can anticipate easy maintenance! 

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 



Pinecone bird feeders

Sat. Sept. 15 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Make your very own bird feeder while learning about local birds and how to create bird-friendly spaces in your garden!

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 



Fall Festival 

Sat. oct. 13 & sun. oct. 14 | 10:00am-3:00pm

Swansons' annual Fall Festival is a beloved tradition to celebrate fall, complete with tractor hay rides, a hay maze, and games and crafts. Come have fun for a good cause! All event proceeds will be donated to a local organization.

Some activities require tickets.

glitter mini-pumpkins

Sat. oct. 20 & Sun. oct. 21 | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Create a fabulous glitter pumpkin! Pick your mini-pumpkin and go wild decorating it with colorful glitter. 

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 



Edible candy cone trees

Sat. Nov. 10 & Sun. Nov. 11* | drop in 10:00am-2:00pm

Get messy and creative during this festive activity. Frost and decorate your own ice cream cone Christmas tree. Then you can eat your creation or display it for the holidays. *Note this starts on the 2nd Saturday of the month. 

Activity fee: $5 for materials and instruction. 



Holiday Adventure tours

Nov. 10 - dec. 24 | self-guided tour

Pick up a map and take a tour of the most interesting spots at Swansons. Learn about plants, visit Christmas Tree Land, meet some special guests, and check out the model train village. Remember to visit the sleigh photo-op for a selfie!
